  8. The monophysite angelology of John Philoponus.L. S. B. MacCoull - 1995 - Byzantion 65 (2):388-395.

    (1 other version)Religious Commitment and Secular Reason.S. R. L. Clark - 2002 - Philosophical Quarterly 52 (206):134-137.
Many religious people are alarmed about features of the current age - violence in the media, a pervasive hedonism, a marginalization of religion, and widespread abortion. These concerns influence politics, but just as there should be a separation between church and state, so should there be a balance between religious commitments and secular arguments calling for social reforms. Robert Audi offers a principle of secular rationale, which does not exclude religious grounds for action but which rules out restricting freedom except (...)

Corporate Social Responsibility and Long-term Compensation: Evidence from Canada.L. S. Mahoney & Linda Thorne - 2005 - Journal of Business Ethics 57 (3):241-253.
. This paper examines the association between long-term compensation and corporate social responsibility for 90 publicly traded Canadian firms. Social responsibility is considered to include concerns for social factors and the environment, 564-578; Kane, E. J., 341-359). Long-term compensation attempts to focus executives efforts on optimizing the longer term, which should direct their attention to factors traditionally associated with socially responsible executives. As hypothesized, we found a significant relationship between the long-term compensation and total CSR weakness as well as the (...)

    Plato's Euthyphro and the Earlier Theory of Forms. [REVIEW]S. L. - 1972 - Review of Metaphysics 25 (3):547-549.
This excellent book consists of a translation of Plato's Euthyphro, plus "interspersed comment" intended "partly as a help to the Greekless reader in finding his way, and partly as a means of embedding the discussion of the earlier theory of Forms which follows it." That subsequent discussion is a series of sections aimed at establishing "that there is an earlier theory of Forms, found in the Euthyphro and other early dialogues as an essential adjunct of Socratic dialect" and that it (...)

The White Bull effect: abusive coauthorship and publication parasitism.L. S. Kwok - 2005 - Journal of Medical Ethics 31 (9):554-556.
Junior researchers can be abused and bullied by unscrupulous senior collaborators. This article describes the profile of a type of serial abuser, the White Bull, who uses his academic seniority to distort authorship credit and who disguises his parasitism with carefully premeditated deception. Further research into the personality traits of such perpetrators is warranted.

  39. Notes on Philoponus' theory of vision.L. S. B. MacCoull - 1997 - Byzantion 67 (2):558-562.

Spinoza's Theory of the Emotions in Light of Contemporary Psychoneurology.L. S. Vygotskii - 1972 - Russian Studies in Philosophy 10 (4):362-382.
The period of the mid-1920s to the mid-1980s was a portentous period for Soviet psychology. As this period recedes into the past, the figure of L. S. Vygotskii rises more and more before us. Vygotskii died of tuberculosis when not quite 37 years old. He was a psychologist for only 10 years, and it was only in the last 6 of these that he did the work we now associate with his name. During those brief years Vygotskii wrote over 120 (...)

    The Evolutionary Foundation of Perceiving One's Own Emotions.Sarah L. Strout, Rosemarie I. Sokol, James D. Laird & Nicholas S. Thompson - 2004 - Behavior and Philosophy 32 (2):493 - 502.
Much research in the field of emotions has shown that people differ in the cues that they use to perceive their own emotions. People who are more responsive to personal cues (personal cuers) make use of cues arising from their own bodies and behavior; people who are less responsive to personal cues (situational cuers) make use of cues arising from the world around them. An evolutionary explanation of this well-documented phenomenon is that it occurs because of the operation of a (...)
